Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede obtained the certificate in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the University of Ibadan in 1977. He obtained a first class Bachelor’s Degree in Arabic from the University of Ilorin in 1981. He also obtained from the same University his PGDE Master’s and Ph.D (Islamic Studies) in 1985 and 1991 respectively. He rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Islamic Studies in 1995.He was Director of Academic Planning of the University of Ilorin, Chairman/Director of Consultancy Services, 2001-2003, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and Administration in succession from July, 2003 to July, 2007. He was at a time the Chairman Committee of Directors of Academic Planning in Nigerian Universities, 2002 to 2004. He was in 2006 appointed a consultant/resource person for the re-organisation of the National Universities Commission (NUC) He was until his voluntary resignation in 2011, the President, Association of African Universities;was the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin from October, 2007 to 2012 and Chairman Committee of Vice-Chancellors (CVC) and Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) from 2011 to 2012. He presently serves on the Board of Association of Common Wealth Universities (ACU), 2010 to date and International Association of Universities (IAU), 2008 to date. He is currently the Executive Secretary and National Coordinator of Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) from 2007 to date.
